Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2019—Great Minds® founder and CEO Lynne Munson joined the leaders of the social-emotional learning movement to celebrate how high quality curricula entwined with social-emotional learning help children achieve their greatest potential.

“When we give teachers a curriculum that is exceptional and accessible, we tear down barriers for all students—including those facing social and emotional challenges, students who struggle with dyslexia, English learners, and students with few print materials at home and who have no one to take them to libraries and museums,” Munson told attendees at the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) founders dinner.

Munson described student success at an elementary school outside Denver that uses Wit & Wisdom®, the English language arts curriculum from Great Minds. The household income in this district is the lowest in Colorado. Some of these children doubt whether they belong in school. Yet, their teacher said, “It's amazing what kids can do once they feel competent and successful.”

Munson preceded the keynote speaker, David Brooks of The New York Times, who outlined the “weaver” movement promoting societal interconnectedness for stronger communities and democracy. Other event participants included CASEL founders Dan Goleman, Mark Greenberg, Eileen Rockefeller Growald, Linda Lantieri, Tim Shriver, David Sluyter, and honorary founder Roger Weissberg.

Munson’s full remarks are available here. A one-page infographic summarizing how Wit & Wisdom and Eureka Math®, the Great Minds math curriculum, integrate SEL, is available here. Detailed analyses of how Wit & Wisdom and Eureka Math integrate SEL are available here for downloading after registration.
