In concepts 3 and 4, students complete their study of the anchor phenomenon, individual variation in humpback whales. To dive in, students apply what they have learned about inherited traits to consider whether offspring from the same parents always look the same. Students then use what they have learned about factors that influence an individuals’ traits to think about how traits affect an individual’s life. This knowledge builds the answers to the Focus Questions: How do individuals get their traits and how do individual’s traits affect their lives?
